Ignacio, this has been the elephant in the room for so long but I think it is finally gaining traction: As a solo practitioner you are both a practicing professional and a business owner. You can't perform your services if you don't maintain a healthy business attitude. If you just want to perform legal services then work for someone else. It really boils down to that. (Thanks for visiting, too!)

Down here in Costa Rica: We all must move ahead to see all (customers and service providers) the legal services as a business with all the normal requierements: cash flow, customer service and constant reinvention (among others). It is so hard to leave (again, for all of us) the idea that this is just a way of earning a living!

Rachel,

It should be something you review and modify on a regular basis. I've met too many people who grow rapidly and in their second or third year they go - who am I and what have I done? Help? I don't know how I got here. You, at least, will have a better handle on where you are headed and have a better idea what to do as you continue to grow.

I developed a business plan a few months ago and then re-vamped it a few weeks ago. Now that I have my first few clients and additional information on pricing, I am re-vamping again. For me, looking at my business plan weekly to ensure that I am focused on my goals is essential. Otherwise, I get really overwhelmed with all the tasks, options, decisions I have to make. Taking a look at the business plan reminds me of why I am doing each thing that I am doing and also why I started a solo practice in the first place.
