I totally agree with Susan. Of course it is not an easy task to start practicing solo or start a new challenge. However, if you don’t have the guts to try… how do you intend to discover? When I decided to start my own law firm I was so tired of the other senior partners from the big law firm I used to work that I used that as one of my main incentives. For instance, we had this senior partner in our area that used to steal our work when presenting the results to the clients – the guy would take our names out of the documents and insert his instead. But the worst part was that he would frequently cut our billable hours for the stolen projects…

I wholeheartedly agree with this assessment. I am getting tired of getting that **** from practicing attorney’s telling me that the best way to do anything is to go work for a firm for 10-20 years, and then you might be able to be successful. I was actually told that was the best way to get into mediation of healthcare issues – go do litigation for 20 years, then come back – and this was at last year’s ABA national meeting and from a speaker on a panel on mediation in healthcare. I don’t have the time or inclination to put up with that BS anymore – I have a unusual skill set and when people know I am out there, I believe they will seek me out. Thanks, Susan, for giving us a forum to learn those skills and methods to get our stories and skill sets in front of those people we can help.

You can understand why people make such sweeping generalizations. You just don’t agree

I love it! This is so true – it may be hard work to actually show that it can be done, but it is always worth it!
