THANK YOU! You actually priced it so I’d almost be hurting myself if I DIDN’T enroll. I saw your tweet too about pricing right, not looking to take advantage. You are true to your word. Can’t wait to get inside.
@Jason – That was the point. We want SPU to be in every solo’s arsenal of tools they use to create and grow their solo practices. Can’t wait to meet you on March 20th!
About time…I have been following SPU since it was announced and it has been about a year. I was on a post-Bar Exam cruise from LA to Hawaii when I got the original email.
The pricing appears to be just about PERFECT. I mean less than $50/month…can’t be beat. I hope your servers and professors are ready!!!
Wow, that’s MUCH less than I anticipated. This is a fantastic deal for solo and small-firm lawyers. You’ve assembled an all-star faculty at Solo Practice University. It would be worth the price just to listen to any one of these lawyers speak. Hard to believe you can offer them all for that price.
@Rusty – I love the word ‘PERFECT’. We thought long and hard on the right pricing structure. Thanks.
@Bob – As one student said, “You can’t price on value because the value is priceless.”
Tuition is to cover our expenses, eliminate reliance upon advertisers (we’ll talk about our philosophy in a future post) and be able to keep upgrading the technology and educational resources for those who enroll.
The faculty is AWESOME and doesn’t it just send a great message about lawyers helping lawyers
One of our professions best kept secrets (unfortunately.)
Will you be joining us on March 20th?
I am ready to sign up right now, but I guess I will survive two more weeks before I can enroll.
Wow! Great job Susan and Co. I especially like the early adopters option and will be doing some more evangelisim. Can’t wait for the first day of school!
Susan, will you be offering any free trials or “day passes” for those who don’t know what SPU is all about?
I think the price is wonderful for this site – and I can’t wait to tell my friends at school about SPU.
Very nice price! I think it’s right on target with my expectations. Now, let’s hope the content is, too!
@Dave! – Oh, the content will more than exceed your expectations. Just understand it’s being introduced in an ongoing fashion through faculty teaching, within the communities and much more. In less than 72 hours the students and faculty have set up more than 40 niched communities based upon practice areas, geography and more. The energy is pretty amazing!
I’m really looking forward to this. I’m especially looking forward to meeting other new solo practitioners and sharing the experience of building a new practice. See you in a few weeks!
Am I lucky to be ‘inside’ already, or what? It’s only been a couple of days – everyone’s getting comfortable – content is being added – connections are being made – conversations starting – even took my first test ride class in deposition tactics…it’s like a wildfire.
If what I’ve seen in the last couple days is any indicator, it is SO worth it – this pricing scheme is ideal. SPU looks better by the minute (literally!). Come on in – the water’s fine!

My anti-spam word was Whoa, and that’s what I said when I read this. Tuition locked for life I think I gotta get in on the quarterly one at least (especially since the attorney prices go up higher afterwards).
Joseph, I’m so glad we made you happy and you’re not even in yet! It makes me feel very good!
This is WAY LESS than I thought you’d be charging. Impressive, I’ll certainly talk to my partner about it. You’ve worked very hard towards your goal Susan, I’m positive that SPU is going to be a great success! Hats off to you.
Elizabeth, we expect to see you in our hallowed halls very soon. There is an amazing energy inside which everyone feels….something which seems to have been depleted this winter by all the professional and economic news. If in our little corner of cyberspace we’ve created something special for soon to be solos and those already practicing, I’m thrilled!
OMG.
Susan,
You said it would be affordable. But “affordable” means different things to different people. For an evening law student in my last semester of school, preparing to sit for the bar, and knowing my day job will be ending soon (BigCorp downsizing), THIS IS AFFORDABLE.
You are truly a visionary and SPU will be open soon. On your faculty is someone that I reached out to for advice, as she was practicing in an area that is my passion. (Translation: You’ve recruited the BEST of the BEST for SPU.)
If I could touch you right now, I’d hug you!
@ Karen – Thank you. While this seed called Solo Practice University has been germinating for nearly two years it would not have blossomed without Dave Carson creating the site AND the many faculty who are 9and will be) teaching here. They are coming to this with an incredible enthusiasm and desire to teach.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting your “doors” opening. I signed up for your newsletter a year ago on behalf of my sole practioner husband and I have closely followed your progression. I could just feel that you were going to provide information to help bring him into the 21st century. He will be signing up ABSOLUTELY! Although their product is “law” they still have to deal with the ugly minutia of accounting, compliance, payroll, and collections, etc etc. THANKS!
Great! How do I sign up? Thanks again for this wonderful resource.
Matthew – starting March 20th at 12:00 EST you can enroll and we will welcome you with open arms
Susan can you give a brief explanation on how the content is going to be delivered/available? The initial tuition sounds great, I was waffling about the benefits but at that price will definitely be joining.
@ Paul – Next week we will post on all the benefits. And we will talk about how the content will be delivered, too. So hold on just a little longer
And I look forward to welcoming you in to SPU!
I’ve been following this for awhile now. The price is right on the money. It seems silly to pass it up, though I’m only a 1L right now…a locked in rate is pretty hard to beat. Let me think about this. Congratulations on accomplishing this major goal of yours!
Susan,
I’ve been monitoring your progress for some time now, and was pleasantly surprised by the pricing structure. Would I be locked into the tuition plan I originally choose, or could I subscribe to the quarterly plan, and upgrade at a later time to the annual plan at the introductory rate? Thanks!
@Rania – as long as you change your subscription on or before April 17th your rate will be lock for life. It’s that simple!
Hope to see you inside
My only question is with so many great faculty members already in the mix, and unlimited course offerings available for the same tuition price, when will I actually have time to practice LAW?!?!?!?
Susan,
My question was going to be whether a lawyer who really wants to go solo – but with many years of working for others and not a clue how to get started – could benefit from the advice here. Well, for the price I would be just crazy not to enroll. I figure if I can just find ONE person who can give me some advice on an area of law I am very interested in, but know NOTHING about the mechanics of, it will be worth it. From what I have seen reading the e-mails over the past few months, I could spend all my time learning and never earning!
What an incredible idea this is. I cannot wait!!
Looks interesting. Do you know if the courses qualify for cle credit in Texas?
@Leigh Meineke, We do not offer CLE credits. There are many fine organizations which do. However, providing CLE is not part of our core mission. We are here to provide a very different experience for solos and those who want to be to get educated in the practical ‘how tos’ of solo and small firm practice. There is nothing currently like SPU out there which gives them the environment in which to both learn and connect with others similarly situated. Hope we’ll see you inside
